Sudanese Music 3: more clips ...

Peace ... salam ...

Its bad luck these days ... around me ...

many things have ended negatively ... by the end of this week it should be all clear ... hope so

This is some part of a long series of writings ...

This time, we have a group ... a good group trying some good music ...

In this clip many instruments are used, and the violin side was "light" .. usually some musicians use a technique (i think called double-not) which makes a violin sounds more like a "fiddle", those used in some folklore music ...

it can get annoying when you have many violins playing the same notes at the same time ... (in summary) ...

check this one for a better use of violins in Sudanese music ..

in the previous clip we can notice the use of a flute and a guitar, which are rarely recognized in a "Song" ... they are usually just "overlapped" by vocals ...

the acoustic guitar is rarely used in this form ... although it sounds great ...

next is a groove from the north ... simple ... hands+oud+drums ...

this one represents the northern music ... nice though .. originally done .. not much technology or electronic stuff used ...

its not in arabic btw, but fits within the "Sudanese song framework" :), why i say this cause majority of sudanse songs originate from the Arab side,

and these mainly are "haqeeba" rooted or influenced ...

just to remember "haqeeba style originated from Sufi-based hymns" ... so there you can find the relations between Sudanese music and other north-african music , such as Mali, Morocco, Algeria and some parts of Senegal ...

before i end .. thanks to u Ezanee for the reference ... and hope this series will last ...

thats all for today ...

peace and hope you can enjoy these ...

some news ... and a special clip ...

Peace ...

It seems im on a long ... long ... unlimited holiday ... or until i find a "another" job ...

the 1st i found turned out to be a failure ... it didnt work out as it should .. or at least as i wanted .. included some bad luck ...

anyway ... im still at that best place , the library ... (anyway, i'l be indirectly kicked out by the end of this month, since my subscription will end by that end ... i cant borrow no more ...)

days are not that empty though ... i have some work ... editing for dad, blah blah ...

so im not in a full holiday .. nor im doing something that is directly useful ...

back to Sudanese Music ... i gave up writing full articles ... not time .. not enough resources ...

so il end up posting some material that will give a very general view of it ...

here is a clip from a new artist - i dont know if anyone listen to her back in sudan , but she's appearing on local TV (as well as local Satellite Tv) ...

this song is of the folkloric type, but it's melody shows the strength (and difficulty) of the Sudanese song,

little touch of an Oud in the background ... hope u'l enjoy it ... and if u'r into singing ... check out the difficulty ...

i bet she'd the best (and only) female singer with an "international" voice in Sudan, others are trying ... but none has reached this level ...

enjoy!

While trying to buy Nasi lemak

peace .. and salam ,,,

this writing is all about proximity ... or specifically "how near are you to another person or a stranger" ...

while at the Wednesday "pasar malam", while was trying to buy a nasi lemak, while was i was standing in some uncomfortable position ... trying as hard as i can to convince the saleswoman to pass me my packacge of that tasty-yummy-hot-sweet-stuff ... the saleswoman didnt want to entertain me at all ... (dont ask why but may be racist as she was and say the color of my skin! .. Oh God ... maybe and maybe not ... ) anyway .. she refuses to look but i kept saying "tiga biasa" ... ok ok .. i was gonna share it anyway ... i wasnt gonna eat all 3 ...

but the issue didn't end there ... there were about 3 people as well who came after me (guess it was the beginning of the number 3 curse) ... and they all got what they wanted ...

at that point i really felt heated ... sweating already as usual ... in the middle of a place where u'r the only "coloured" man to be purchasing some food which presumably made for only-and-only specific type of people (as many think) ...

to make things worse, where the topic of the day "proximity" shines ...

there were two girls behind me.. they kept moving and moving slowly until we were shoulder to shoulder ... then half of her body was within centimeters of mine (infronnt of me) ...

at that point i thought i ain't moving because she aint blind ... im not that small you know (for people who never saw me) ... and then tension was high ...

until it reached a moment that she was 100% infront of me ...

now damn!!!

what the hell is going on??? in my mind i said ...

and guess what? .. she ordered and had her food done ...

helooooooo .. there is a moron waiting here ... oh saleswoman ...

but wait! .. didnt i just said she was infront of me ... i mean really really infront as if there was not any kind of ethics that denies her to be that close (forget religion, and the hadhari thingy)... even if i was her husband i wont bring her that close to me while buying ... oh' man ... those positions are reserved for husband and wife (simple and plain as that)

where is the logic here??

i guess the nasi lemak may sometimes be more expensive than dignity (coz to me she was making herself quite ignorant of the fact that she is an adult aint no child anymore... sister ...)

that was soooo annoying ... you are infront of two ladies who cant behave right ... the saleswoman and the so-called-supposed-to-be sister from an Islamic background ...

i mean u can come close in some cultures ... but there is always a limit ... being "inside" is not as being "close" ... and pushing yourself like that isnt acceptable

and hey! .. guess what "even more" ...

i left without buying ...

yah yah ... i might be a moron ...

but that situation ended with me saying a rude "excuse me" to the soooo-innocent-not-knowing-her-proximity-limits girl ...

and they tell you that people are "thinking" these days ... i bet she doesnt even understand still why i left off like that ...

in conclusion i really hope girls know how much can they be close .. specially when they are in front and a man (a stranger and a black man) is in the back ... its not about feminism or sexism ... its about common sense and attitude ...

Mr Blatter and England

I found this on soccerent.com

Blatter blames foreign players for England's KO

and for sure WHAT A JOKE IT... its another stupid way of thinking by the man on top

" Blatter, in an interview at the University of Zurich, said: 'Football is unpredictable and sometimes without any logic but it is a fact that in the strongest English teams the best players are not always English. 'So where are the best English players coming from? They are coming from the less strong teams, which is weakening the English national team. What is happening in England is that the best teams are preparing the national team players for England's opponents. 'The Premier League has benefited the other countries taking part in the European championships, but not England.'"

less strong teams??? probably he doesn't watch the EPL ... just some "Wooff" Wooff" ...

how much does he care about the England team?? i mean this whole idea will only spoil everything ... it will kill the EPL, kill England since the EPL will definitely die,

is it becasue ManU and Chelsea reached the finals or what??

and since when did FIFA started using the word "Foreigner" so much???

why use it now???

Football has always been a World's game ...

why would humans be so attracted to damn ideas like this ... if a player wants to play for his country --> he will play ... and the better the competition the better the game and the better the player ... simple as that ... [Pssssttt .. i think England needs a better coach]

FIFA talks about fairplay and anti-racism ... isnt it a racist move to ban someone who is qualified for a specific job from doing it just because he holds a damn different passport (or ethnic background - or maybe colour)?

i see it as racism generated from blind nationalism ... its not just about football ...

can we say Cristiano Ronaldo of ManU is a foreigner??? nop! .. he is a successful player at the ManU club .. thats how i see him ... and that's how he should be seen ...

Stop Racism around the world .... and stop whatever leading to it as well ... NO TO BLIND NATIONALISM THAT LEADS TO NO WHERE

we want to live in this world as Humans ... not as foreigners and Locals ... simply, a successful, useful Foreigner is better than a useless Local ... so open the hell up ...

i dont know why many cant understand this simple formula ....

peace
