Reporting : From Masjid Jamek

Alslam - peace -

Well .. first Friday of Ramadan ... so i decided to head Masjid Jamek, for those unaware its a very old Masjid located at Kuala Lumpur - its the oldest by the way - a 100 years mosque ...

Before the Khutbah began, they had a very nice "lecture" or "Ceramah" .. as called in Malay ... i really liked the speaker ... it was in Malay ... so i'l try to translate some of it ...

The speaker began with reciting a verse from AlQuran ... 2:183 O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you

But he didn't stop .. and mentioned another verse , from the same Surah or chapter ... O ye who believe! Al-Qissas is prescribed to you ....

and al-qissas here refers to the Punishment for certain acts.

So he said: we happily accept the first ,with joy and full enthusiasm ... but when it comes to the other verse ... which is in the same surah and uses the same language and has the same structure and order-form. ... we will then not have the same response as the first ...

and the full verse goes:

"O you who believe! Prescribed for you is Al-Qisas (legal retribution : Something justly deserved; recompense) in the case of the murdered: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, and the female for the female. But if the killer is forgiven by the brother of the killed against blood-money, then adhering to it with fairness and payment of the blood-money to the heir should be made in fairness. This is an alleviation and a mercy from your Lord. But whoever transgresses after that will have a painful punishment. And in Al-Qisas (legal retribution) there is a saving of life for you, O people of understanding, that you may become righteous." [Al-Baqarah 2:178,179]

but as the speaker said .. we take from the Quran what we like ... and deny or neglect what we don't like ... based on personal desires ...

and this ignorance will only lead to more gruesome killings ... as the murderer knows he will not be punished that severe anyway ...

He also talked about the Belief (Iman) , Taqwq (Fear -of allah) ... and mentioned that it should be our source of unity and strength, referring to the 50 years of Independence, and how the strengthened "Malay" feeling during those years overcame the "Islam" feeling, and if it wasn't for that Islamic and Iman feeling among many, he wondered what will have happened to the "Malay" ...

and while im writing this, im hearing on TV, a rape scene from some stupid Egyptian series ... the scene lasted for more than 30 minutes ... it was really, really , really annoying ... i guess it was one of those wacky, insane and idiotic producers and writers of such pathetic series ... and they want to show this on TV, during Ramadan .. it was aired on channel ART, they call the Arab Radio and Television ... yah rite ... they only broadcast garbage ... although i was inside the room , i could hear the screams outside ... the easy solution was to change he damn channel

back to our speaker, he ended with a really sad story of the companions, and how they suffered for the sake of this religion ... a sacrifice that we forget ... we only remember that Mr Independence sacrificed for our countries ... but those sacrificed not just for a nation .. they sacrificed to save our beloved prophet, they sacrificed for Islam and they sacrificed so the message will remain alive, so it will reach us today ...

but ... we never cared .. we never read history ... we never read at all ...

we will stay like this forever .. or become worse .. unless someone stands up and speak aloud ...

You, me , or whatever .. the word must be spread .. or we will never be able to answer on the day of judgment ...
