Convo ... 08

salam ..

its over now ... so from a social-point-of-view .... im officially a graduate ...

it was fun ... people ... lots of em ... i met ...

but the best of all was a home-made cake given by one of the friends ... with each letter of congratulations made into a small cup-cake ... this gift i will never forget ...

so generally it was a good day ... never expected it to be good as i was forced to attend ...

so congrats to all the other graduates ... and all the best in life ...

my dad is currently at the hospital ... so i hope if u read this, just a pray will do ... and thats why i ran out after the thing ended ... anyway .... busy-unpredictable-unstable-messed up- days im having ...

my youngest sis is sick ... [OH GOD, ONE SICK PERSON IN THE HOUSE IS ENOUGH], but the sickness decided to come up these days in our house ... and that means more scheduling ....

will stabilize things once my other sis returns from kuantan and help with some of the homework ...

i caught flu with these rainy days ... i think i need a big umbrella now ...

hey ... finally Sudan got a Silver medal ... it came after many years i guess ... but honestly i was expecting 2 golds at the Olympics ... yes 2 golds ... one from Isamel and one from Kaki .... both in athletics 800m, and 100m if not mistaken ...

so congrats to Sudan for the Silver ... i mean in a country that doesn't sponsor sports ... unless its football ... i think its a good achievement ... and i think if there was more care, there are many good athletes in Sudan who can get the gold ... btw, we also have females out there ...

anyway .. a brief for now ...

"Learn to live in Society"

Peace ...

This one of my recent adventures at the Uni...

it was late night, after a bad day ... the industry kicked me out some months ago, the academia are delaying processing of my post-grad stuff coz i came late ...

so i was waiting for the bus that should have come by 10.30 ... but our (king) the bus driver was sleeping ... he came at 11 and some minutes more ...

before the bus came, i was standing by one of the columns ... there is some space between the seats at the bus station and the column for a single person to move in or out ... i was standing there ... after getting tired of sitting ...

then come three (girls) from far ... and they decided to pass through that little space between the seat and the column ... i was there .. stranded ... and they approached , when they came nearer they said "excuse me" in its rudest manner - at least that how i got it - so i moved angrily ... i don't remember how .. but i did raise up my hand in anger ... since there was some "obvious" other space they could have passed through ...... but they decided to get it one me and burst ...

we had some clash there ... we shared some bad attitude ... they went, and later o went

but the moral of the story is that what got above in the title ; the girl told me "Learn to Live in Society" ... there are many conclusions ...

-maybe she thought i was an Islamist - and by that a sexist -
-maybe she thought i was in the best of moods and i would answer her by saying "allow me miss to carry up to your dorm.
-or maybe she thought that i was directly targeting her and not allowing her to move ... well ... i usually move for people , but that night was to bad for me ...

but those were both not the case ... as i was just finishing a bad day that turned over to be even worse ...

so i end up regretting the whole scenario ... i could have just move and let the $%^%& in ...

damn-it ....

i guess we were both wrong ... who knows ... maybe i was even more wrong for being a jack*** ...

anyway ...

Good Morning Malaysia ...

Peace ... and salam ..

Good morning ... its just 8.30am ... feelin' fresh and good ...

just check'd the nst ... new strait times newspaper ... and 1st iv seen is this " Poor spinster lives in a chicken coop" .. i closed it ... and i dont think we need to read more after this ...

i mean if we are as humans are still living in these conditions ... than what's the damn point knowing about our fellow politicians ... they are'nt doing anything ...

so this is lady is a poor lady ... she used to live with her relatives ... so-called .. then they ask her for some rent-money .. what the!!! ... so she leaves em and stays with the chicken ... a sad story ... inhumane enough ....

anyway ... recently things change with us ...i mean me and the family ... we finally moved ... from our house to another ... but not another house ... an apartment instead ... feels good ... there is more social life there ... we had a house ... clean environment ... big ... near a lake ... near McDonald ... but it lacked social life ... people are too rich there that they dont really seem to care about the fact that they live in a "neighborhood" ... big tall walls blocking some houses ... more of a prison to me ... anyway ... now life is "compact" at this apartment ... but the place is cool ... finally after some years we can meet people while going out to shop or do anything ...

same as above ... but not lake and no high walls ... and a smaller toilet .. thats the most annoying so far .... but generally its good ... and hey there's an extra KFC and plenty of Restaurants ... making life better with plenty of food ... :) and yah .. finally i can see a swimming pool (i dont swim anyway) ...

so much injustice is made these days ... but there seem to be no one to care about it ... we all live heavily busy lives ... yah ... they made life more busy .. so we dont care ... anyway ... hope we will see some changes in coming future ... we'll, that if human-beings still have a chance to change before the end of their 'already-ruined' civilization ....

a random post ...

"I'm Busy""I'm Busy""I'm Busy" ... and ya hell i am ...

peace to all (although i'v included the word hell up in the title, hope its not contradictory to the word peace)

anyway ...

Why doesnt believe that someone is busy??! ... just because YOU are'nt doing anything with your life, that doesn't means other aren't ...

so Buzz off people of that type ...

and yes im busy .. so what? .. why is the reaction always some disbelief ... as if 24-hours is enough to complete or daily tasks + some entertainment ...

when i talk of entertainment i mean listening to music, checking yahoo, seeing facebook, reading some news from aljazeera.net...

i have always wondered what people do during day ... there are tonnes of things to do in this life ... and they need people to do the ,,, but still we find some people having more time upto a point when they know that some other -guy- is "Always busy" ...

anyway .. back to preparing some material (modules) ... and yah .. im back to tutoring again ... feels good ... so far clumsy attitude but hope to fix it up well ...

Sudanese Music 3: more clips ...

Peace ... salam ...

Its bad luck these days ... around me ...

many things have ended negatively ... by the end of this week it should be all clear ... hope so

This is some part of a long series of writings ...

This time, we have a group ... a good group trying some good music ...

In this clip many instruments are used, and the violin side was "light" .. usually some musicians use a technique (i think called double-not) which makes a violin sounds more like a "fiddle", those used in some folklore music ...

it can get annoying when you have many violins playing the same notes at the same time ... (in summary) ...

check this one for a better use of violins in Sudanese music ..

in the previous clip we can notice the use of a flute and a guitar, which are rarely recognized in a "Song" ... they are usually just "overlapped" by vocals ...

the acoustic guitar is rarely used in this form ... although it sounds great ...

next is a groove from the north ... simple ... hands+oud+drums ...

this one represents the northern music ... nice though .. originally done .. not much technology or electronic stuff used ...

its not in arabic btw, but fits within the "Sudanese song framework" :), why i say this cause majority of sudanse songs originate from the Arab side,

and these mainly are "haqeeba" rooted or influenced ...

just to remember "haqeeba style originated from Sufi-based hymns" ... so there you can find the relations between Sudanese music and other north-african music , such as Mali, Morocco, Algeria and some parts of Senegal ...

before i end .. thanks to u Ezanee for the reference ... and hope this series will last ...

thats all for today ...

peace and hope you can enjoy these ...

Saturday, June 21, 2008

some news ... and a special clip ...

Peace ...

It seems im on a long ... long ... unlimited holiday ... or until i find a "another" job ...

the 1st i found turned out to be a failure ... it didnt work out as it should .. or at least as i wanted .. included some bad luck ...

anyway ... im still at that best place , the library ... (anyway, i'l be indirectly kicked out by the end of this month, since my subscription will end by that end ... i cant borrow no more ...)

days are not that empty though ... i have some work ... editing for dad, blah blah ...

so im not in a full holiday .. nor im doing something that is directly useful ...

back to Sudanese Music ... i gave up writing full articles ... not time .. not enough resources ...

so il end up posting some material that will give a very general view of it ...

here is a clip from a new artist - i dont know if anyone listen to her back in sudan , but she's appearing on local TV (as well as local Satellite Tv) ...

this song is of the folkloric type, but it's melody shows the strength (and difficulty) of the Sudanese song,

little touch of an Oud in the background ... hope u'l enjoy it ... and if u'r into singing ... check out the difficulty ...

i bet she'd the best (and only) female singer with an "international" voice in Sudan, others are trying ... but none has reached this level ...

enjoy!

While trying to buy Nasi lemak

peace .. and salam ,,,

this writing is all about proximity ... or specifically "how near are you to another person or a stranger" ...

while at the Wednesday "pasar malam", while was trying to buy a nasi lemak, while was i was standing in some uncomfortable position ... trying as hard as i can to convince the saleswoman to pass me my packacge of that tasty-yummy-hot-sweet-stuff ... the saleswoman didnt want to entertain me at all ... (dont ask why but may be racist as she was and say the color of my skin! .. Oh God ... maybe and maybe not ... ) anyway .. she refuses to look but i kept saying "tiga biasa" ... ok ok .. i was gonna share it anyway ... i wasnt gonna eat all 3 ...

but the issue didn't end there ... there were about 3 people as well who came after me (guess it was the beginning of the number 3 curse) ... and they all got what they wanted ...

at that point i really felt heated ... sweating already as usual ... in the middle of a place where u'r the only "coloured" man to be purchasing some food which presumably made for only-and-only specific type of people (as many think) ...

to make things worse, where the topic of the day "proximity" shines ...

there were two girls behind me.. they kept moving and moving slowly until we were shoulder to shoulder ... then half of her body was within centimeters of mine (infronnt of me) ...

at that point i thought i ain't moving because she aint blind ... im not that small you know (for people who never saw me) ... and then tension was high ...

until it reached a moment that she was 100% infront of me ...

now damn!!!

what the hell is going on??? in my mind i said ...

and guess what? .. she ordered and had her food done ...

helooooooo .. there is a moron waiting here ... oh saleswoman ...

but wait! .. didnt i just said she was infront of me ... i mean really really infront as if there was not any kind of ethics that denies her to be that close (forget religion, and the hadhari thingy)... even if i was her husband i wont bring her that close to me while buying ... oh' man ... those positions are reserved for husband and wife (simple and plain as that)

where is the logic here??

i guess the nasi lemak may sometimes be more expensive than dignity (coz to me she was making herself quite ignorant of the fact that she is an adult aint no child anymore... sister ...)

that was soooo annoying ... you are infront of two ladies who cant behave right ... the saleswoman and the so-called-supposed-to-be sister from an Islamic background ...

i mean u can come close in some cultures ... but there is always a limit ... being "inside" is not as being "close" ... and pushing yourself like that isnt acceptable

and hey! .. guess what "even more" ...

i left without buying ...

yah yah ... i might be a moron ...

but that situation ended with me saying a rude "excuse me" to the soooo-innocent-not-knowing-her-proximity-limits girl ...

and they tell you that people are "thinking" these days ... i bet she doesnt even understand still why i left off like that ...

in conclusion i really hope girls know how much can they be close .. specially when they are in front and a man (a stranger and a black man) is in the back ... its not about feminism or sexism ... its about common sense and attitude ...

Mr Blatter and England

I found this on soccerent.com

Blatter blames foreign players for England's KO

and for sure WHAT A JOKE IT... its another stupid way of thinking by the man on top

" Blatter, in an interview at the University of Zurich, said: 'Football is unpredictable and sometimes without any logic but it is a fact that in the strongest English teams the best players are not always English. 'So where are the best English players coming from? They are coming from the less strong teams, which is weakening the English national team. What is happening in England is that the best teams are preparing the national team players for England's opponents. 'The Premier League has benefited the other countries taking part in the European championships, but not England.'"

less strong teams??? probably he doesn't watch the EPL ... just some "Wooff" Wooff" ...

how much does he care about the England team?? i mean this whole idea will only spoil everything ... it will kill the EPL, kill England since the EPL will definitely die,

is it becasue ManU and Chelsea reached the finals or what??

and since when did FIFA started using the word "Foreigner" so much???

why use it now???

Football has always been a World's game ...

why would humans be so attracted to damn ideas like this ... if a player wants to play for his country --> he will play ... and the better the competition the better the game and the better the player ... simple as that ... [Pssssttt .. i think England needs a better coach]

FIFA talks about fairplay and anti-racism ... isnt it a racist move to ban someone who is qualified for a specific job from doing it just because he holds a damn different passport (or ethnic background - or maybe colour)?

i see it as racism generated from blind nationalism ... its not just about football ...

can we say Cristiano Ronaldo of ManU is a foreigner??? nop! .. he is a successful player at the ManU club .. thats how i see him ... and that's how he should be seen ...

Stop Racism around the world .... and stop whatever leading to it as well ... NO TO BLIND NATIONALISM THAT LEADS TO NO WHERE

we want to live in this world as Humans ... not as foreigners and Locals ... simply, a successful, useful Foreigner is better than a useless Local ... so open the hell up ...

i dont know why many cant understand this simple formula ....

FIFA + '6 plus 5 quota' = Football clubs Destruction

Salam to all .. and peace ..

"Sepp Blatter, president of football's governing body FIFA, has been seeking the introduction of the quota to protect the identity of national teams."

another joke produced to us by this world we live in ..

to protect the identity of national teams ... why is FIFA so eager to heat-up this "national casue" ... we as supporters arent so interested in this ruling .. or are we??

Come' Onnnnnn ... This move was initially triggered by some stupid nationalistic feeling ..

we try to kill everything through this feeling .. we cant live in peace with .. we go to war for the sake of it ... and now these politicians are trying to destroy our game ... !!! get you a**** off football ...

and if anyone will agree on this .. he isnt a football supporter .. football is about how you play .. and not where you come from ..

and i will give a simple solutions to those "Players with National Pride" ... if you really don't need players from different places ... then create a club that accept only and only so-called "locals" .. and we see where it will compete ...

but Sepp Blatter may not really know what Global-ization really is ... and what the European "Union" is as well ... becasue he kept insisting on this stupid rule ...

in the end... i really want to see strong teams ...and excellent football ... not see white, black, english, malay, arab or japanese players .... it doesnt matter as long as the game is good ...

DONT KILL THE CLUBS ... if it was in their hand i guess they will ban international transfer ... IDIOTS ... at least they will destroy Arsenal by this damn new rule ... ;) ... but dont worry Arsenal fans .. although a ManU fan me myself .. but we are with U ...

Glory Glory Man United ...

salam and peace to all

I just cant hide my happiness!!! ... Manchester United are Champions of Europe ...

and let the song play ... here is what most supporters of other teams will hate ...

but let's be frank .. Manchester United deserved it ... Chelasea didnt ... although they are considered equal .. and a 1-1 score was reasonable ... but Man U have that spectacular game ..

Man U seems to not score the goal when it aint beautiful ... thats why their game is the most beautiful ...

Go Go ... Maaaaannn UUUuuuuuu

"F***** up Government"

Well ...

sorry for the language .. , i know it ain't civilized nor this the way to talk ... but i had to use that word (and will use in this whole small article).. coz others were just not fit ..

and yes .. of course many might hate America and Israel ... but here I'm referring specifically to a government which disallows help and aid to its own people ...

whatever excuse they have: international intervention , f***ing national interest, f***ing military government superpower...

it doesn't matter .. people have died , are dying and will die .. you as a government is responsible ... so open the hell up ... let aid agencies in ... if you are scared of them intervening or spying .. then you're f***'d up ... f***ing government... you were warned and don't care about the local people ... so why claim ownership of the country and the Leadership chair??? f***'d up leaders ...

This was a f***ed up message to the government of Myanmar

NOTE: This article was censored after getting some email from someone, guess it was considered to be inappropriate to curse a government that is soooooo reluctant and stupid (at the same time) enough to kill its own citizens

Sudanese Music : Production Blunders

Salam and peace to all

Hope all is fine,

anyway..these days my status is just waiting and waiting ...

just ended a visit to the MPH stock-clearance .. it was good .. cheap :)

a long week it is .. waiting for a job - am i dreaming ? - i say to myself yet still im waiting as it was so near ... not anymore ..

imagine finding yourself falling down to earth from a challenger rocket which has already left earth's space and about to land on the moon .. how will that feel??

You fall not because it was you who wanted the fall but that of another person's advantage you fall .. you have no relation with that advantage he has nor you are related to the other competitor ...

anyway ... life goes on ... and now I'm not sure of the future is hiding... who cares??!!! right?, but it annoying and i cant focus on anything ... ayuuuhhhhhhh

so today lets talk about Sudanese Music, the hidden music of the world ... not many have heard it .. and not many have tried to make it available to the world to hear it ...

A music that is produced only and only for the local "market" ... call it a market if u want to ... its not a market in a sense that it will bring in more money .. its a market where creativity is disallowed ... a market where only a single "mood" is accepted .. be it a good or a bad "mood", as long as everyone thinks its ok then it will be ok ...

Ok so a little bit about Sudanese music .. Sudanese music is actually a very elegant, emotional, rich and very unique type of music ... really really unique ... because once you hear it .. you will know it's Sudanese!! no 2 can argue on it ... some say it's similar to Asian music (Korean, Chinese, Japaneses and Thai) .. but the drum pattern is totally different, so a listener can easily distinguish between these styles.

The whole musical structure is based on old classical hymns ... quite old ... its part of a sufi's (Islamic spiritual sect ) lifestyle, but then music was introduced as time passed ... and more music was in ... violins, accordions, Oud (Arabic lute), flute (different types of these) .. and of course bongos for drumming with some un-obvious Tabla (derbukka) -i say that becasue it isnt as clear as in the general Arabic music where the Derbukka is really clear ... all this was based on another view-point of which lyrics and melodies preceded music ... it was fine .. and was good as well .. people focused on the song lyrics and a little bit of music ... life was good .. and people were satisfied with that ..

The follwoing is an example of an old track .. ... this was an extension to the old songs which were to be named "Haqiba" songs

a more faster and interesting drumming pattern can be found at the follwoing link

http://youtube.com/watch?v=eQejtz9cGRc&feature=related

the author disabled embedding .. so im passing just a link

I'l leave you with AlKashif in the next sample .. a classical very good example .. at that time music was more organized although they didn't have that much of technology .. recordings were cleaner ... but this example from youtube lack sound quality .. but the remastering of the track itself is quite good and we can actually hear different instruments being played together ..

suddenly in that time we notice the word orchestra, so they tried to add more violins ... a typical band will use 3 violins (or more) , an accordion and a flute playing quite the same tone .. this was a sample of music been played ..

it was quite good ... but it was again not the best choice of instruments IMHO, the use of more violins like a European orchestra would have brought better results ... at least a similar one to the orchestra used by many Arab singers ... but be aware here ..

"Sudanese music is based on a musical scale called Pentatonic scale: scale with 5 notes to the octave, like the black notes in the piano. It is similar to the Scottish, Chinese and Porto Rican music." .. so you might want to read more if you're interested on knowing more about this scale :)

wait!!! are those fiddles or violins? .. well, it is mixed ... since many people don't really differentiate between many instruments it just goes through the ears ..

unfortunately as time passed ... not much changed either and this system was followed and was bigger bands were introduced with more instruments ... the worst thing was people were satisfied with this style ... no one wanted to change and those who did were considered failures at first until they proved otherwise ...

There were some creativity here in there .. such as this example ... it introduced more continous music with the singer doing all the work within the lyrics, it wasnt a known way of singing but he did try something new ,,,, although it was still within the same domain as any other ... it followed the same instrumental distribution and there was little change in the way it was produced ...

these examples are just simple examples, and the music evolved even more with a continuation i will present tomorrow ... this was just the beginnings of Sudanese music , a good beginning for their time which later producers brought down this evolving art ...

Around KL .. Me and the Umbrella

Well .. salam and peace to all

It has been some normal days ... well, Iv Just graduated ...

lets go to the word "Graduation" : this is just a phrase we say to satisfy our own self, that we did something or we have just finished some part of our life... well true to some extent ..

but graduation is actually the beginning of life, and life to human beings means death ... to live you need to kill someone (at least bring him down) ...

what a pathetic life we have... many humans enjoy this, we all feel it during the pre-graduation era, but it gets even more intense after that ...

we could have lived better if not for our own dirty desires ... the desire to bring someone down ... a desire to achieve happiness by killing another human ...

well .. we don't have to take someone's life to kill him ... he can be dead-walking ... a zombie or another killer who is ready to kill another

the worst part .. those who do this are "Graduates" themselves ... but who cares ... "as long as i live, the others die" said one of them ...

some will stab you without even knowing you, so you're a victim in this society of maniacs, probably 70% of the people in this world we live at are ... well, mad ...

but wait, once i was waiting next to the bus stop when 2 ladies passed by, it was raining, and raining .... you know kuala lumpur these days (if ur living here), they saw a third lady's umbrella partially broken, they decided to help and fix it for her, both of them were from different races, (many races co-exist here) .. that was -for me- a Petronas commercial in real-life ... i always wanted to see those commercials in real-life ... it was a touching moment ... to see some people helping each other with no hope of a return ... they shared smiles, laughed and the hopeless lady got her umbrella fixed .. what a happy moment for her as she was carrying many bags ... wait!! the story didnt end there ... i was next to this show of respect, freedom of mindset , human-values ..etc .. and suddenly they offered me a part of what was covering them from the rain ... for the first time i was offered an umbrella ... and even more, i shared it with the lady .. she shared it!!! i couldn't believe ... a person who could offer me an umbrella ( well, half an umbrella) i was in joy! ... happy .. and thought it was one of the best of my days in this city ... the city of kuala lumpur ...

Hmmm ... i knew those people were normal people ... they never felt graduation probably ... they were normal workers .. who came here to work for a living ... obviously they would have been somewhere else if they had graduated ... and i would have never got the chance to be under that umbrella ... it has nothing to do with knowledge nor graduation ... it was just part of the "humanistic" thing we miss ... they had it ...

anyway ... the world may become a happier place with more real humans than "killers", but we will always hear: who cares!!!

just some notes taken on past days ...

Back to the 70's

Salam and peace to ye all

To many things to discuss ...

im back to 70's music again .. Boney M at my No.1 in the list, Bee Gees, James Brown ... and abit of jimi hendrix

running like upto 24 hours ... thats more of a 70's re-birth ...

but i came to conclude those people had better music than us .. even the recording , at least relatively

music in recent month's has become useless ... too much dependent on body language ... not even good music .. forget the lyrics ...

im also on my latest track ...a flute track for the first time ... so its melodic ... :)

had a haircut like after some 9 month .. feeling air on my head again ... it takes more than 5 minutes to comb .. so had to execute that afro-thingy ..

final year project is nearly done .... wooohooo .. due date the 15th of march 2008 ...

wish me luck on that last one ...

a very brief post of what has been happening lately ...

Ignoring to torture ...

Peace to all .... (if u still believe in peace)

anyway ... you know what (yahh you ... the reader) ...that there is some method which will make you feel real bad ... its when someone you respect behave as if he doesn't know you ... even trying to avoid having a look at you ... so basically you don't exist ... we usually do this with people we hate or get annoyed with ... but when it happens .. it really means one thing ... the damn f***er have no respect at all ... and this is from a very narrow viewpoint of mine ... it depends ... maybe im wrong .. but when it happens it has on exaplanation ... specially when it repeats more than 3 times in a session ....

ok ok ... it just happened here and this got my nerves on ... we use to call this category of behavior "marginalization politics" ... some will laugh as i translated this word-by-word from an Arabic statement ... "Siasat al-tahmeesh" .... now this is mental torture .... you don't have to do anything .. thats the main concept ... you just let the person in front of you in a non-exist state ...

and there you have ... the ingredients to torture human feelings ...

walslaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
