Welcome to the Linux world! ... this is what i have to say to those interested to try some new "Adventure" with another operating system.
An operating system is what runs your computer : Like Windows.
Now the question is: Can i change my operating system? ... and yes i tell you .. its easy to change your Operating system.
Now some will be thinking : Why the heck am i introducing Linux to people who don't recognize the word "Operating System" ... we'll easily answer : we never knew of operating system when we were at school either .. and no one was simple enough to tell us ... all will assume you already know about "software" and "installation" ... well i met people who don't really know what software installation was ... year 2006 - university level ...
an Operating system controls and starts our computer - it does the shutting down as well -
So what's the problem with Windows??? .... i might say for a simple person , its viruses and slow response after being infected with tonnes of spyware (some bad software) and hidden files (files that normal people don't care to see). These will lead after sometime in a slowness of the whole system. Its caused by carelessness in downloading garbage software, agreeing without reading the pop-up note or warning (and i don't mean the license agreement), trying some fancy wallpapers or screen-savers ... wandering around at un-ethical websites ... and downloading software from anywhere on the net .
most of the above are caused by the need to make your Desktop look "nicer" ... or add a new fancy tool that does nothing more than cute-looking stuff while it sucks down your bandwidth and slows the system.
so when you install new software ... make sure its safe ...at least from a known site, and don't think that an anti-virus alone can do all the watching ... it can help ... but not always ...
then ... too many applications (software)installed will just cause your system to become much more slower than you expect ...
the fancier you desktop is ... the more memory you're actually using ... which kills the system ...
try to stay simple with the looks of windows ... life isn't about how things look like , but how they behave as well ...
these what i can remember ... iv seen some torture their poor machines with garbage ... and then they will usually forget about the software installed after the trial ends ... well .. no one knows how to crack in the family ...
stay safe .. or you will loose that system and years of decoration ....
